Farmers across Region Two are celebrating as the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Agriculture deliver a major boost to the agricultural sector.
A total of 19,161 bags of free fertiliser are being distributed to 3,909 registered farmers, easing the burden of rising input costs and ensuring stronger crop production this season.
From rice fields to kitchen gardens, the support is reaching every corner of the Essequibo Coast. Farmers say that with fertiliser costs removed, they can now focus fully on cultivation, which will lead to higher yields and increased income.
Narine Persaud, who has been farming for more than 12 years, expressed her gratitude for the good gesture.
“This fertiliser will save us thousands of dollars and help us increase production. I’m thankful the government has remembered us farmers.”
The Ministry of Agriculture ensured the distribution process was simple and efficient. Fertiliser was provided within the region, eliminating long trips and transportation costs.
Extension officers were on the ground to make certain that every farmer received their share of the 19,161 bags.
Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, during a recent interview, highlighted that the initiative is part of President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s commitment to strengthen food security, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and expand national crop production.
With 3,909 farmers now equipped with 19,161 bags of fertiliser, Region Two is preparing for one of its most promising harvest seasons, bringing hope and prosperity to the Essequibo Coast.
