Amsterdam happy with pro boxing debut

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has a shining star in its ranks. Desmond Amsterdam looked every bit a knockout artist in his pro boxing debut at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall when he secured a knockout win over Romeo Norville.
Boxing fans at the sports hall barely had time to blink at the start of the bout, as Amsterdam floored Norville for the 10-count just one minute and 10 seconds into the first round.
Speaking exclusively with Ignite News, Amsterdam expressed his satisfaction with the win.
“It’s an amazing feeling for me to enter into pro. This is something long I wanted, and I always wanted to be a champion for my country. This is just the start, there are more wins to come, more wins, more recognition and more joy,” Amsterdam told Ignite News.
However, there will be no resting for the GDF-based pugilist, who is already thinking about improving his ring work.
“Well, what I have to improve is basically I need to improve my skill levels and also my coordination and a lot of fine-tuning things,” Amsterdam highlighted.
Amsterdam also thanked the Guyana Defence Force and the Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, for their encouragement and unwavering support throughout his journey, and looks forward to flying the Golden Arrowhead high whenever he laces up his gloves again.
