More than 200 young people between the ages of 16 and 30 have applied to join the recently launched Region Three Junior Chamber of Commerce.
The initiative, announced two weeks ago under the Region Three (Essequibo Islands–West Demerara) Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI), will commence in September and seeks to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs and civic leaders in the region.
A statement issued by the Chamber this week confirmed that the deadline for applications is September 24. It encouraged young people within the region and across the Essequibo Islands (Hogg Island, Wakenaam, and Leguan) to take advantage of the opportunity.
Theon Alleyne, Secretary and Public Relations Officer of the Region Three Chamber, had told Ignite News that, with Guyana’s expansion and economic changes, it was prudent for the Chamber to build its next generation of leaders.
“Guyana is experiencing transformative growth, with unprecedented opportunities for every young person to elevate their quality of life. We’re pioneering a groundbreaking Junior Chamber of Commerce that will revolutionise how young people understand and engage with business,” the secretary said.
He explained that the new Junior Chamber will provide structured mentorship, practical business training, leadership development, and direct exposure to real-world commerce. The programme also complements existing TVET and academic efforts by rooting entrepreneurial ambition in civic responsibility.
“We’re not just supporting youth,” Alleyne stated, adding that “we’re empowering the next generation of leaders by not only providing them with a seat at the table, but also the tools, skills, and guidance to build their own table, and turn their potential into success.”
The Junior Chamber will guide young people on starting and growing businesses, offer mentorship from industry leaders, provide leadership training, internships and trade expo opportunities, facilitate participation in national and regional events, help transform ideas into income, and offer evening support for CSEC studies.
