A 60-year-old man died on Sunday after his motorcycle collided with a car on Mocha Access Road, East Bank Demerara, police said.
The victim, identified only as Sookram, of 153 Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in an unconscious state but died from his injuries at about 09:50hrs, authorities said.
The accident involved Motorcar PNN 5140, driven by 25-year-old Shawn Alleyne, who allegedly was travelling at high speed and failed to stop after the collision, police said. Alleyne was later arrested and taken to Providence Police Station along with the vehicle.
Breathalyser tests conducted on Alleyne showed blood alcohol levels of 0.058 per cent and 0.054 per cent, police said. He remains in custody pending further investigations.
