Dr Jagdeo: Pace of transformation to double in next five years 

The pace of transformation will double in the next five years, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo said on Monday evening.

Addressing a gathering of supporters at Enmore, East Coast Demerara, ahead of the September 1 General and Regional Elections, Dr. Jagdeo said his party’s credibility rests on its record of delivery.

“We have not increased a single tax in five years. People know that when the PPP/C makes a promise, we deliver,” he declared.

He noted that the government has created thousands of jobs, constructed new schools and hospitals, and distributed thousands of house lots annually. University tuition fees have been removed, while investments in roads, recreational facilities, and sports infrastructure are helping to uplift young people, he added.

Dr. Jagdeo further said the administration has cushioned citizens from global economic shocks through subsidies and targeted interventions, including lowering electricity costs and providing public assistance and disability grants.

The PPP/C is campaigning on plans to accelerate housing programmes, expand investments in health and education, and strengthen support for small businesses and communities.

Urging voters not to take the elections lightly, Dr. Jagdeo warned that the opposition sought to reverse recent gains.

“These are not easy elections. Everyone must come out and ensure that Guyana continues on a path of growth, stability, and opportunity for all,” he told the crowd of hundreds.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall also addressed the meeting, invoking Enmore’s historic role in Guyana’s fight against exploitation and struggles for freedom.

“Your foreparents fought against exploitation and lack of freedom. Today, you must protect that legacy by ensuring that Guyana never returns to the dark days of stagnation and discrimination,” he said.

Nandlall pointed to the PPP/C’s record of development in Enmore and surrounding communities, citing land distribution, expanded access to water and electricity, and road improvements. Many of these initiatives, he said, began under earlier PPP/C administrations and are now being expanded under President Irfaan Ali.

Current projects include a new regional hospital at Enmore, new schools, industrial estates, an oil and gas training institute, and a hospitality institute to prepare young people for jobs in the tourism sector. “These are not promises for tomorrow; these are projects already in motion,” Nandlall stressed, rallying supporters to vote resoundingly for the PPP/C.
