The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has approved late submissions from four political parties for the appointment of assistant agents, polling agents and candidates to the poll and to the count, the body said on Saturday.

At a Commission meeting held on August 30, 2025, GECOM accepted appeals from the Alliance for Change (AFC), Assembly of Liberty and Prosperity (ALP), Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) and We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), which had missed the statutory deadline under Section 24(2) of the Representation of the People Act. The law requires notifications to be submitted to Returning Officers no later than seven days before election day.

The parties submitted written appeals, prompting GECOM to convene a special statutory sitting. The requests were approved “in the interest of fairness and transparency, and to ensure the integrity of the process,” the Commission said.

Chief Election Officer Vishnu Persaud has since notified the parties and urged them to seek accreditation for their Agents and Candidates with Returning Officers “as soon as possible, given the timeframe that is available for this to be done.”
