Police ranks from Regional Divisions 4A and 4B on Tuesday morning arrested a 47-year-old businessman after he was allegedly found with an unlicensed firearm and matching rounds of ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara.
The businessman, identified as Freeman Fordyce of Lot 97 Nandy Park, was seated in the driver’s seat of a motor car bearing registration number PAH 6733, which was parked in front of his residence at the time of the operation, around 07:50 hrs.
According to a police report, ranks approached Fordyce and informed him that they would be conducting a search of the vehicle for arms, ammunition, and narcotics. During the search, they discovered a 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing five matching rounds of ammunition inside the glove compartment.
When questioned, Fordyce admitted that he was not the holder of a firearm license. He was immediately told of the offence, cautioned, and subsequently arrested. The businessman reportedly remained silent during the process.
He was later escorted to the Providence Police Station, where the firearm was dusted for fingerprints as part of the ongoing probe. Fordyce remains in custody assisting investigators.
