The stage is set for a blockbuster showdown in the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final, as the Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders prepare to lock horns on Sunday night at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. The highly anticipated clash bowls off at 8 pm.
At a pre-final press conference held today, Warriors head coach Lance Klusener and Knight Riders assistant coach Ottis Gibson spoke confidently about their teams’ preparations and the magnitude of the occasion.
Klusener, whose side will be contesting their eighth CPL final, said the Warriors were refreshed after a few days off but admitted that some players were carrying minor niggles.
“That’s part and parcel of franchise cricket,” he noted, adding that expectations and pressure are what motivate players at this stage. He urged fans to turn up in numbers. “If we can use that support as a 12th man, that will be amazing. It’s always a privilege to play in front of the Providence fans.”
Gibson, fresh from TKR’s emphatic victory over the Saint Lucia Kings in the eliminator, stressed that his squad’s experience and hunger were key drivers. “We haven’t won it since 2020, so the opportunity to do that tomorrow night is a massive motivator,” he said. “Nicholas Pooran has never won the CPL, so there are a lot of reasons why everybody’s really motivated,” Gibson added
Both coaches acknowledged that controlling emotions would be crucial in what has become one of the fiercest rivalries in Caribbean franchise cricket. Gibson said TKR would rely on players accustomed to big occasions, while Klusener emphasised the importance of staying composed in high-pressure moments.
The Warriors, buoyed by a settled opening partnership and home advantage, are chasing their second CPL crown, while TKR will aim to add to their record haul of titles. With passionate fan bases on both sides and star-studded squads, Sunday night’s final promises to be an electrifying contest.
