Demerara Bank Limited has launched a new initiative aimed at boosting local entrepreneurship, unveiling the Dream. Build. Lead. (DBL) Innovation Tank with $10 million in grants for emerging businesses.
The programme, launched at the bank’s Camp Street corporate office on Saturday, is designed as an annual initiative to provide financing, mentorship, and networking opportunities for start-ups and small enterprises across Guyana. The bank said the initiative aims to grow each year, with progressively larger allocations.
“Our objective is to establish this as an annual initiative with progressively increasing allocations, reinforcing our long-term commitment and impact,” the bank noted in its launch materials.
The event featured presentations from senior executives and partner organisations. Imran Badruddin, Senior Manager for Investment and Business Development at Demerara Bank, outlined the vision and structure of the Innovation Tank, while Jerrett Morgan, Senior Manager for Visa and Finance, highlighted the role of technology in driving growth and customer solutions.
Representatives from the Guyana Manufacturing & Services Association, the American Chamber of Commerce Guyana, and the Centre for Local Business Development shared perspectives on entrepreneurship and national development. Closing reflections were delivered by Farahnaz Hosain, emphasising the importance of innovation and collaboration in building Guyana’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The launch concluded with a networking session, giving entrepreneurs the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and potential partners. Through the programme, Demerara Bank said it hopes to strengthen community-building while supporting innovative, sustainable businesses that can help drive Guyana’s economic transformation.
