Mon Repos fatal accident victim identified as 62-year-old Rohan Sammy

Police have confirmed that the pedestrian who died in a fatal accident on Mon Repos Public Road in the early hours of Tuesday has been identified as Rohan Sammy, 62, of Lot 127, Third Street, Mon Repos.

Ignite News had reported yesterday that the accident occurred around 00:20 hrs when a white motor car, PAC 9262, driven by a 26-year-old Lance Corporal from the Ogle Police Outpost, struck Mr. Sammy as he crossed the road from south to north.

Police stated that the left front of the vehicle hit Mr. Sammy, who fell onto the road and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations revealed that the driver tested negative for alcohol and remains under close arrest while authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Mr. Sammy’s body is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination. Police continue to investigate the incident to determine how the fatal collision occurred.

The confirmation of Mr. Sammy’s identity provides closure for family and community members who had been awaiting details about the tragic accident.
