Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Oneidge Walrond, has called on the leadership of the Guyana Police Force to demonstrate stronger discipline, integrity, and accountability in confronting current and emerging challenges.

Addressing the Force’s Executive Leadership Team and Commanders on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Minister Walrond emphasized that while the Government has invested heavily in infrastructure, mobility, technology, and training since 2020, “resources alone cannot protect the reputation of this institution; only integrity, discipline, and leadership can.”

The Minister was firm on the need to tackle misconduct and corruption, stating: “Corruption must be dealt with firmly. Show zero tolerance. Do not look the other way. Be fearless in confronting it.”

On the matter of discipline, she added: “Leadership must be by example. If discipline is weak at the top, it will collapse below. Tighten discipline, strengthen performance, and rebuild trust.”

Minister Walrond highlighted new and emerging challenges facing the Force, including border security, increased connectivity, and the demands of a rapidly growing economy. She urged commanders to ensure that resources translate into tangible outcomes, so that communities feel secure, criminals face the full weight of the law, and the uniform once again commands pride and respect.

Affirming the critical link between public safety and effective leadership, Minister Walrond declared: “This is the moment for decisive leadership. The people will not wait, and neither will I.”

The Minister concluded by pledging her unwavering support as the Force works to build a professional, respected, and trusted service rooted in integrity, discipline, and accountability.
