Ministers Parag and Jacobs attend Cubana Air Disaster 49th Anniversary Commemoration

Hon. Sonia Parag, Minister of Education, and Hon. Steven Jacobs, Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, earlier today attended a ceremony commemorating the 49th anniversary of the Cubana Air Disaster.

The event honours the victims of Cubana de Aviación Flight 455, which was destroyed by a terrorist bombing on October 6, 1976, just off the coast of Barbados.

All 73 persons on board were killed, including 11 Guyanese medical students who were en route to Cuba to pursue their studies.

Today’s commemoration stands as a solemn reminder of the tragedy and the enduring impact it has had on Guyana, Cuba, and the wider Caribbean region.
