A 62-year-old man, Pooran Bridglall, was on Wednesday remanded to prison after being charged with the sexual assault of a child under 15 years old.
Bridglall appeared before Magistrate Michelle Mathias at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was formally read. He was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which falls under Section 10 (3) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.
The alleged incident reportedly took place on October 5, 2025, within the accused’s yard. The minor later informed their mother, who reported the matter to the police. Bridglall was subsequently arrested and charged.
Outside the courtroom, relatives of the child expressed distress and called for justice. They also alleged that Bridglall had been previously implicated in a similar matter.
Magistrate Mathias ordered that Bridglall be remanded to prison, and the case has been adjourned until October 16, 2025.
