President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has extended congratulations to all newly elected Regional Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons, and Councillors across Guyana’s ten administrative regions, urging them to approach their offices with a sense of trust and public responsibility.
“I extend heartfelt congratulations to all those who have been elected to serve as Regional Chairmen, Vice Chairpersons, and Councillors across our ten administrative regions. As you take up your respective offices, I urge you to remain mindful that public office is not a prize to be enjoyed, but a trust to be honoured,” President Ali said in a statement.
Highlighting the importance of Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs) in local governance, Dr. Ali noted that the councils serve as the key instruments for translating national priorities into tangible benefits for citizens. He emphasized the need for cooperation among council members, regardless of party affiliation, stating that while healthy debate is welcome, it must be guided by “a shared commitment to the people’s welfare and to the advancement of the region as a whole.”
The President acknowledged the adversarial nature of elections but stressed the importance of collaboration. “It is time now for all to set aside partisan divisions and work together, not only among themselves but also in partnership with central government. Development requires collective effort. Progress in health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and local enterprise can only be achieved when we recognize that we are all working toward the same goal: a better quality of life for the people we serve,” he said.
Dr. Ali further reminded leaders that effective leadership is rooted in humility, empathy, and integrity. “Always remember that leadership is not about power or prestige, but about service and sacrifice. Those who are chosen to lead are, at their core, servants of the people. And it is through humility, empathy, and integrity that true leadership is defined,” he said.
The President concluded by wishing all elected officials a successful tenure, emphasizing that citizens expect RDCs to be accountable, responsive, and united in their purpose.
