Murtland Ephraim Haley, a legal officer at the Ministry of Education and published poet, formally submitted his application for admission to the bar before Her Honour Justice Nicola Pierre today.
The application was presented by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand, herself an attorney, highlighting the professional mentorship and support offered to emerging legal practitioners.
Haley, originally from Buxton and later BV, comes from a family devoted to service. His father, Keith Haley, is a Minister of Religion, and his mother, Gillian Carter-Haley, is a retired headteacher. His siblings, Michael and Marvis Haley, are both electrical engineers.
Educated at St. Agnes Primary and Bishop’s High School, Haley earned a law degree and a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration, and was recognized as the best graduating second-year male law student at the Eugene De Puch Law School.
Minister Manickchand praised Haley’s dedication to public service and legal excellence, describing him as a “sound and solid citizen who is dedicated to serving God, community, and country.” She highlighted his experience at the Ministry of Education, where he provided sound and grounded advice, and his civic engagement, which has contributed to initiatives aimed at fostering a better Guyana.
Haley’s bar admission marks a key milestone in his legal career, positioning him to continue serving the nation while upholding the highest standards of the profession.
