National Quality Week 2025: GNBS hosts secondary school speech competition in Region Two

As part of National Quality Week 2025, the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Region Two Department of Education, hosted its Secondary School Speech Competition on Monday, October 13, at the Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary School.

The competition featured Grade Ten students from four secondary schools—Anna Regina Multilateral, Johanna Cecilia, Abram Zuil, and Aurora Secondary—delivering speeches on the role of standards and quality in national development.

Following an impressive showcase of eloquence and insight, the winners were announced:

* 1st Place: Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary School – Trophy and $50,000 voucher
* 2nd Place: Abram Zuil Secondary School – Trophy and $25,000 voucher
* 3rd Place: Johanna Cecilia Secondary School – Trophy
* Best Speaker: Romir Chetram, Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary School – Laptop prize

The event was attended by newly appointed Regional Chair Devin Mohan, Parmanand Singh from the Ministry of Education, Region Two Department of Education, along with Syeid Ibrahim, Head of Marketing, and Lloyd David, Head of Corporate Communications at the GNBS. The competition also received support from GNBS Regional Inspectors.

Now in its third year, the speech competition highlights GNBS’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of standards and quality among youth, while fostering a culture of excellence in schools.
