Students from Region Two showcased their public speaking talents and understanding of national development as the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) hosted its Secondary School Speech Competition on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary School.
The event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s Region Two Department of Education, formed part of activities marking National Quality Week 2025, celebrated under the theme “The Importance of Standards and Quality in National Development.”
Four schools participated in the keenly contested competition — Anna Regina Multilateral, Johanna Cecilia, Abram Zuil, and Aurora Secondary — with Grade Ten students delivering powerful and thought-provoking speeches on how national standards and quality assurance contribute to sustainable development, innovation, and progress.
After an afternoon of strong presentations, Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary School emerged victorious, securing first place along with a trophy and a $50,000 voucher. Abram Zuil Secondary School took second place, earning a trophy and a $25,000 voucher, while Johanna Cecilia Secondary School finished in third place and received a trophy.
The title of Best Speaker was awarded to Romir Chetram of Anna Regina Multilateral, who also received a laptop prize for his exceptional performance and delivery.
Among those attending the event were Regional Chairman Devin Mohan, Parmanand Singh of the Ministry of Education – Region Two, and representatives of the GNBS, including Syeid Ibrahim, Head of Marketing, and Lloyd David, Head of Corporate Communications. The event was further supported by GNBS Regional Inspectors.
Now in its third year, the GNBS Secondary School Speech Competition continues to promote awareness of standards and quality among students, inspiring them to think critically about their contributions to Guyana’s growth. The initiative reflects GNBS’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and integrity within the education sector and across the nation.
