In pursuit of the Government of Guyana’s target to deliver 40,000 homes within the next five years, the Ministry of Housing and Water—through the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA)—has intensified its partnership with financial institutions to accelerate homeownership across the country.

On Wednesday, senior officials from the Ministry met with representatives of major local banks to strengthen coordination, tackle existing challenges, and explore new opportunities for collaboration within the housing sector.

The meeting was led by Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal; Minister within the Ministry, Hon. Vanessa Benn; Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bishram Kuppen; and CH&PA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Martin Pertab, alongside other senior management officials.

Representatives from the New Building Society (NBS), Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), Citizens Bank Guyana Inc., Demerara Bank Limited, and Bank of Baroda attended the engagement, offering insights and recommendations to improve financing and streamline the construction process for homeowners.

Describing the meeting as both constructive and solution-oriented, Minister Croal emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and accountability across the housing sector. He also noted that strengthened collaboration with the Land Registry will help speed up the processing of Certificates of Title and Transports—an important step in ensuring timely homeownership.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pertab outlined CH&PA’s plans to introduce improved oversight and quality assurance mechanisms for home construction, ensuring that all beneficiaries receive durable and high-quality houses.

Both the Ministry and the participating financial institutions reaffirmed their shared goal of making homeownership more accessible, affordable, and efficient for Guyanese families.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader national housing agenda, which focuses on expanding access to financing, promoting private–public partnerships, and delivering sustainable communities nationwide.
