The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed concern on Tuesday over recent comments by the Venezuelan Ambassador in Georgetown, questioning the Ambassador’s account of a visit by Mr. Nazar Mohamed to the Venezuelan Embassy regarding a visa application.
The ministry said the Ambassador’s latest statement contradicts his earlier account given during a meeting with Guyana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, in which he confirmed Mr. Mohamed had visited the embassy and provided details on the documents submitted and the purpose of the visit.
The ministry noted that the Ambassador had previously indicated the event referenced in the visa application was scheduled for July 2025, while the actual visit occurred in August 2025.
“Subsequent denial by the Ambassador is troubling and inconsistent with his prior statement,” the ministry said, emphasizing that all foreign mission representatives in Georgetown are expected to maintain “the highest standards of honesty, professionalism and respect for diplomatic norms.”
