Police corporal shot dead at Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling

Richard Haynes, a 34-year-old Police Lance Corporal and resident of Jetty Squatting Area, was shot and killed this morning at the Vreed-en-Hoop stelling, West Coast Demerara.

Police have arrested a 37-year-old businessman, proprietor of a local cell phone shop, in connection with the shooting. Investigations indicate the two men had an argument over the sale of a cell phone before the suspect opened fire. The suspect’s licensed firearm has been seized as inquiries continue.
