A fire of unknown origin completely destroyed a three-storey concrete and timber building at 6th Avenue, Bartica, in the early hours of Saturday, October 25, 2025.
According to the Guyana Fire Service (GFS), the Bartica Fire Station received a report of the blaze at approximately 02:29 hrs. Two appliances — Water Tender 126 and Water Carrier 24 — were immediately deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the building, owned by Mr. Ryan Mahadeo and Mrs. Emily Mahadeo, fully engulfed in flames. Despite their efforts, the structure and its contents were completely destroyed.
Four jets, supplied by both responding appliances, were used to bring the fire under control. Station Officer Johnson reported that firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Prevention Department.
