16 GDF officers complete Junior Command Course

Sixteen junior officers of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) have completed the 18-week Junior Command and Staff Course No. 33 (JCSC 33), designed to prepare them for leadership and staff responsibilities at the junior command level.

The course, held at the Colonel Cecil Martindale Command and Staff School (CCMCSS), covered subjects including battle procedures, combat operations, internal security, military law, communication, administration, and management.

In response to evolving security challenges, three new modules—Drone Operations, Electronic Warfare, and Introduction to Multi-Domain Operations—were added to the curriculum, reflecting the GDF’s shift toward technology-driven and multidimensional warfare.

Lieutenant Troy Hestick was named Best Graduating Student and received the Best Service Paper Award. Lieutenant Terronde Benn was the Runner-Up Student.

Delivering the feature address at the closing ceremony, Colonel General Staff, Colonel Kenlloyd Roberts, MSM, congratulated the graduates and praised the directing staff for upholding high professional standards.

He reminded the officers that their leadership now directly impacts those under their command, urging them to prioritize discipline, training, physical fitness, integrity, and mutual trust. “A well-trained soldier is a confident soldier,” Roberts said, adding that continual training is key to readiness and excellence.

The successful completion of JCSC 33 reinforces the GDF’s commitment to developing capable, adaptable, and forward-thinking leaders.
