Tourism Awareness Month 2025 kicked off on Saturday with a vibrant ceremony at Baganara Island Resort, celebrating the sector under the theme “Tourism, a transformational pillar in Guyana’s economy.”
Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister Susan Rodrigues said the month will feature a renewed focus on local heritage, with the launch of two new tourism products in Regions Four and Nine, adding to 68 introduced since 2020.
“Throughout November, events including art competitions, guided tours, culinary showcases and expos will highlight Guyana’s rich landscape and culture,” Rodrigues said, stressing that initiatives will be people-centred and backed by incentives to empower communities, create jobs, and expand economic opportunities.
President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana, Mitra Ramkumar, said tourism “drives value… not only because it contributes to GDP, but because it builds dignity, inclusion and national pride.”
The month-long activities aim to celebrate the industry while encouraging citizens and visitors to explore, protect, and share experiences rooted in Guyana’s heritage.
