Two persons — Patrice Grimmond and Evis Robin — are missing following a boating incident in the Puruni River, Middle Mazaruni, on Wednesday.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the aluminium boat in which they were travelling reportedly capsized and sank around 16:00 hrs while en route from Surie Mouth Backdam to Puruni Landing.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the vessel, which was carrying four occupants, encountered mechanical difficulties and became unbalanced before overturning. Two of the passengers managed to swim to safety, while Grimmond and Robin have not yet been found.
A team of police ranks has since been deployed to the area to assist with ongoing search and recovery efforts.
