A 69-year-old cyclist died on Thursday after being struck by a lorry at the intersection of Lamaha Street and Vlissengen Road in Georgetown.
Lennox George Benjamin of Prashad Nagar was hit around 13:15 local time when the lorry, driven by a 33-year-old man from Long Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, moved into the intersection to turn south, authorities said. The cyclist was reportedly on the left side of the lorry at the time of the collision.
Benjamin was treated by emergency medical personnel at the scene but was pronounced dead by a doctor. His body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the lorry is in police custody, and an investigation is ongoing.
