A 42-year-old gold miner died after being stabbed during an altercation at Aranguy Landing, Cuyuni River, in the early hours of Sunday, December 21, 2025.
The deceased has been identified as Michael John Benn, also known as “Mikey,” of Charity, Essequibo Coast. Police said the incident occurred at about 02:00 hrs at a liquor shop in the area, where Benn became involved in a confrontation with two men. During the altercation, he sustained stab wounds to his chest.
One suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the second suspect.
Benn’s body is presently at the Aranka Police Station and is awaiting transportation to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Police investigations are continuing.
