Slingerz FC and Western Tigers will meet in the final of the Guyana Football Federation’s year-end Super 16 Cup on January 1 at the National Training Centre Ground in Providence.
Coincidentally, both teams advanced to the final via penalty shootouts. Western Tigers edged the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw, while Slingerz FC defeated the Guyana Police Force 3–1 on penalties following a similar 1–1 stalemate.
GDF’s Ian Docker opened the scoring for the army side in the 19th minute, but Kevon Woodley quickly responded for Western Tigers with an equaliser in the 32nd minute. The teams remained locked for the rest of the match, forcing the contest to penalties.
Meanwhile, Ryan Hackett gave the Police Force the lead in the 45th minute to end the first half ahead. However, Slingerz FC provided late drama when Kemar Beckford netted the equaliser in the 70th minute, sending the match to a shootout.
The final will be played on January 1 at 21:00 hrs, while the third-place playoff between the Guyana Defence Force and the Guyana Police Force will kick off at 18:30 hrs.
