A quantity of gold was seized during joint enforcement operations in central Georgetown targeting illegal mining and the unlawful trade in precious metals on Saturday.
The January 3 operations involved the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, the ministry’s Compliance Unit, and the Guyana Police Force, according to a statement. Several undocumented individuals were processed, and persons of interest were verified during the exercise.
Authorities said a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal mining remains in place, with similar operations to be conducted nationwide as part of broader efforts to protect the environment and uphold the rule of law.
