A 29-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a car on the Anna Regina Public Road, Essequibo Coast, on Friday.
The victim, identified as Ashley Holder of Bushlot, succumbed to her injuries at the Lima Regional Hospital at about 05:56 hrs on Saturday, a day after the collision.
Police said the accident involved motor car PAK 4313, driven by a 54-year-old man from Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the car was travelling south along the eastern driving lane when the driver felt an impact to the front of the vehicle. After stopping, he observed the pedestrian lying unconscious on the roadway.
Holder was taken to the Lima Regional Hospital by the driver and was admitted with injuries to her head and body.
The driver was later arrested and escorted to the Anna Regina Police Station, where a breathalyzer test showed 10 micrograms of alcohol, below the legal limit of 30 micrograms, police said. He remains in custody.
Investigators said video footage from the vehicle’s dash camera has been retrieved and will be reviewed as investigations continue.
