The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) has warned the public against the sale and use of cartoon-themed “1-gram” zip-lock packaging, saying the items are commonly associated with the packaging and street-level distribution of illicit narcotics.
In a statement, CANU said such packaging is widely recognised by law enforcement as drug paraphernalia and is not considered ordinary consumer packaging. The agency cautioned that the sale, possession, or use of these materials in connection with narcotics constitutes an offence under the law and may result in criminal liability.
CANU expressed particular concern over the use of cartoon, candy, and child-appealing designs, noting that these increase the risk of exposure and harm to children and young persons.
The agency said online platforms, including digital marketplaces and social media, are actively monitored as part of intelligence-led operations. Vendors and members of the public were urged to cease the sale, purchase, or distribution of such items where they are intended for illicit use.
CANU also encouraged the public to report suspicious online drug-related sales anonymously.
Under Section 12 and related provisions of narcotics legislation, the possession of materials or equipment used in the preparation, packaging, storage, or trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is a punishable offence.
