Three persons sustained serious injuries following a motor vehicle accident along the Brahan Public Road, West Coast Berbice, on Monday.
According to police reports, the accident involved motor car PAN 852, owned and driven by 25-year-old Vinod Rahim, and motor lorry GAL 1653, owned and driven by 34-year-old Ewart Austin.
Motor car PAN 852 was traveling west along the southern side of the road with two occupants: 43-year-old Davi Jaipaul and 32-year-old Nadera Persaud. At the same time, motor lorry GAL 1653 was traveling east along the northern side of the roadway.
Reports indicate that the lorry allegedly veered into the southern lane, colliding with the oncoming motor car.
As a result of the collision, the driver and both passengers of the motor car sustained injuries. Public-spirited citizens assisted in removing them from the vehicle before they were transported to the Bath Regional Hospital.
Medical assessments revealed that Davi Jaipaul suffered a suspected spinal fracture, Nadera Persaud sustained a fracture to her left femur, and Vinod Rahim sustained fractures to his left leg and left forearm. All three were admitted to the hospital’s emergency ward for treatment.
Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
