Police in Region Seven shot and killed a suspected gunman during a joint service operation on Thursday at Quartzstone Backdam, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as Shemar Latif of Onderneeming Sandpit, Essequibo Coast, reportedly fired at officers while attempting to evade arrest. Police returned fire, and Latif sustained fatal injuries. A 9mm pistol, six live rounds, and spent shells were recovered at the scene.
He was taken to Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations remain ongoing
