The Mashabo Cage Culture Project in Region Two has achieved another productive tambaqui harvest, reflecting ongoing success in community-based aquaculture development.
The harvesting was overseen by Agriculture Coordinator Tamesh Ramnauth and officers from the Fisheries Department, who provided technical guidance and ensured best management practices were followed.
Implemented under the Government of Guyana, the initiative supports local food production while promoting sustainable aquaculture and contributes to the economic empowerment of Amerindian communities along the Essequibo Coast.
Toshao of the village Giddel Abram, expressing gratitude to the ministry, said the project “teaches the village to earn” and that proceeds from fish sales are used to support the local economy and fund further community development.
