Headline: Vandals strike National Park; authorities launch investigation

The Protected Areas Commission (PAC) has reported several deliberate acts of vandalism at Georgetown’s National Park.
According to PAC, incidents recorded via 24-hour CCTV surveillance and routine ground inspections include the defacing of park signage, the uprooting and destruction of plants near the Children’s Monument, and general damage to public infrastructure.

The commission said such actions not only deplete resources intended for maintenance and improvement but also show disregard for the thousands of people who use the park daily for recreation, fitness, and family activities.

PAC added that it is working closely with the Guyana Police Force and other authorities to identify those responsible. Visitors are urged to report any suspicious activity to on-site security or via telephone numbers 604-1088, 694-6653, 699-3990, or 666-5677.

Meanwhile, the Board of Directors said management teams are restoring the vandalised areas and called on the public to help monitor and maintain urban parks for the benefit of all Guyanese.
