Police in Regional Division 4 ‘B’ are investigating an alleged armed robbery Thursday evening at Providence Public Road near the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge, East Bank Demerara, involving two Chinese nationals, authorities said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were walking along the pavement toward their residence when three men on a motorcycle approached them. One suspect, armed with a handgun, allegedly struck one victim on the head and stole cash, while another suspect took two cell phones and cash from the second victim.
A 23-year-old armed security officer in the area reportedly fired a warning shot into the air. The suspects allegedly fired several rounds in his direction before fleeing south along the East Bank Access Road.
Emergency Medical Technicians attended the scene, and one victim was taken to Diamond Regional Hospital for treatment. No gunshot injuries were reported.
Four 9mm spent shells were recovered and lodged for examination. Investigations are ongoing, police said.
