CARIFTA team performed well despite near misses, says manager

Guyana’s team manager for the CARIFTA Games, Niall Stanton, said the country’s 2026 performance in Grenada was a success despite narrowly missing out on more medals.
Speaking to Ignite News, Stanton said the athletes delivered strong performances throughout the Easter weekend competition.
“My opinion for CARIFTA 2026, it was a success. Our young men and women went out there, they performed, give the best of their ability on the track. We were in a lot of finals, got a lot of fourth finishes, missing out on medals but the team success was great,” Stanton stated.
He said he remains optimistic about the future of Guyana’s athletics, while praising the role of coaches in the team’s preparation and development.
“We can really move forward from here, I believe that the young people really just need to stay focused, we also need to give credit to the coaches because the coaches would have performed and work hard with these athletes and we also need to give credit to the government who worked with us since last year,” Stanton mentioned.
Guyana secured six medals at the CARIFTA Games, including four gold.
