Radish Domingo, a 46-year-old carpenter from Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, died on Wednesday evening after a two-storey concrete structure collapsed during roofing works at Atlantic Gardens, police said.
Seven other workers were injured in the incident, which occurred at about 19:10 hrs while the men were engaged in construction work on the building.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the men were on the roof of the structure when it collapsed, causing them to be trapped under debris.
The Police and Guyana Fire Service were called to the scene, and emergency responders assisted in transporting the injured men to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and Sheriff Medical Hospital for treatment.
Domingo was pulled from beneath the debris and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
His body was later identified by a female relative and escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police said CCTV footage from the area has been identified and will be reviewed as part of ongoing investigations.
Investigations are continuing.
