Neighbours placed on lifetime bond after one cuts other’s electrical cord worth $800

A Laing Avenue man and his neighbour have both been placed on a lifetime bond to keep the peace following a dispute that led to the cutting of an electrical cord.
The accused, 26-year-old Brandon Mars, appeared on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Orinthia Smith, where he faced charges of abusive language and damage to property.
The court heard that on Thursday, at Laing Avenue, Georgetown, Mars allegedly used abusive language against his neighbour, Alisson Charles, and damaged her electrical cord valued at $800. The prosecution told the court that the two neighbours had a misunderstanding which escalated into the incident.
Mars openly admitted to the act, telling the court, “Yes, I did cut the cord; I cut her thing.”
The prosecutor requested that both parties be placed on a bond, noting that they live in close proximity.
Magistrate Smith subsequently placed both Mars and Charles on a lifetime bond to keep the peace. Mars was also granted $10,000 bail and ordered to pay a $15,000 fine for damage to property, with an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment if unpaid.
The matter was adjourned to April 24, 2026.
