Porter dies after speeding truck crashes into bridge rail on Soesdyke–Linden Highway

Isiah Malachi Williams, 23, died on Thursday night in an accident on the Soesdyke–Linden Highway in the vicinity of Long Creek, police said.
The accident occurred at about 21:30 hrs and involved motor lorry GRR 7067, driven by a 31-year-old truck driver from One Mile, Wismar, Linden.
Initial investigations indicate that the lorry was travelling south along the eastern carriageway at a reportedly fast rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck the left-side rail of a concrete bridge.
Williams and the driver were flung from the vehicle onto the roadway, while a third occupant, a 27-year-old porter from Wismar, was pinned inside the lorry.
Williams was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver and the other occupant were treated for lacerations and later discharged.
The body has been taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, pending a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver returned a negative result for alcohol. He remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
