Several questioned, murder weapon recovered in murder of seven-year-old boy

Several persons have been questioned as police investigate the killing of a seven-year-old boy and the attempted murder of his 72-year-old great-grandmother during a home invasion at Phase Three, Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, on Friday morning.

Police said Adriel Aftab Mohamed was found motionless inside the house at about 05:05 hrs, while the injured pensioner was discovered nearby with wounds. Both lived at the residence with relatives.

The elderly woman was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where she was admitted in a stable condition.
Investigators recovered a knife suspected to have been used in the attack, while CCTV footage from cameras in the area is being reviewed as part of the probe.

The child was pronounced dead on arrival at the De Kinderen Regional Hospital before his body was transferred to Ezekiel Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.

Police said several people have been questioned and efforts are continuing to locate the suspect.
