Over 130 Essequibo Coast homes repaired after devastating windstorm

More than 130 homes in Region Two have received emergency roof repairs following a windstorm on Wednesday that caused widespread destruction across the Essequibo Coast.

This is according to Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Madanlall Ramraj.

The storm, described as one of the most severe ever recorded in the region, damaged homes, uprooted trees and utility poles, and struck several public buildings, including the Anna Regina Fire Station, the regional library, and a section of the roof of the yet-to-be-commissioned Anna Regina Stadium.

A regional task force led by Minister Ramraj was established to coordinate relief operations, drawing on support from the Guyana Defence Force, Civil Defence Commission, Guyana Police Force, and private contractors.

Ramraj said teams are working around the clock to prioritise assistance for the elderly, single-parent households, and persons living with disabilities.

Recovery efforts are ongoing.
