Missing Essequibo fishermen alive and at sea, relative confirms

The two Essequibo Coast fishermen who were reported missing after Wednesday’s severe storm have been confirmed to be alive and remain at sea, according to information provided by a relative.

The men, identified as Bola Narine and Suraj Muneer (known as Anil), reportedly left to fish around midday on Wednesday, shortly before the powerful storm struck their boat in the vicinity of Cozier, Essequibo Coast.

A relative said the fishermen were able to make contact and explained that the storm blew the solar panels off their boat, preventing them from charging their mobile phone.

To conserve the remaining battery power, they switched the phone off and only turned it on when they were within an area that had cellular signal.

Meanwhile, the third fisherman, Sewlall Ramdial, managed to swim ashore after the storm. However, he reportedly lost both his boat and engine during the ordeal.

The condition of the two fishermen is believed to be stable based on the communication received.
