Two drivers were on Monday charged with causing death by dangerous driving in connection with a fatal three-vehicle accident on Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara, on Saturday.
Kord Sobers, 55, of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, driver of motor lorry #GAF 1093, and Colin Cumberbatch, 31, of Kitty, Georgetown, driver of minibus #BAH 9443, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court, where the indictable charges were read to them.
The accident claimed the life of Ruddy Raymond, 36, of Jonestown, Lima, Essequibo Coast.
The charges were laid under Section 35(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, as amended by the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Act No. 16 of 1998.
The accused were not required to plead and were remanded to prison. The matters were adjourned to July 10 for report.
