NGSA top student Zaida Gonzalez wants to be a doctor

Eleven-year-old Zaida Gonzalez, a student on the Essequibo Coast, achieved a perfect score at the 2026 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and already has her sights set on a future in medicine.
Gonzalez, of Suddie Primary School, who secured a coveted place at Queen’s College, told Ignite News that she hopes to one day establish her own clinic.
Her achievement comes as no surprise to those who know her. Zaida has been recognised throughout her primary school years for consistently strong academic performance. She will continue her secondary education at Anna Regina Secondary School.
In the months leading up to the examination, Zaida gave up dancing and limited her time on electronic devices, maintaining a strict, disciplined schedule as she prepared for one of the most important examinations of her young life.
Faith carried her through the process as much as discipline did. Zaida said she believed God guided her throughout her studies and helped her push past the challenges she faced along the way.
She credits her parents, Dr Khilauti Dass and Dr Ordelis Ramirez Gonzalez, with unwavering support and encouragement throughout her journey.
Now, inspired by her favourite quote — “Start, finish and smile” — Zaida is urging other young people to believe in themselves and keep striving towards their own goals.
