‘Satan’ remanded over alleged possession of AK-47 rifles

Ryan Singh, called ‘Satan’, 34, a labourer of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was on Wednesday remanded to prison after being charged with conspiracy to commit a felony over the alleged possession of ten unlicensed AK-47 rifles.

He appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where the charge, contrary to Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, was read to him.

The charge relates to an investigation into the alleged possession of the rifles at East Coast Berbice.

The rifles were discovered on 22 May, wrapped in plastic and cloth along the No. 11 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, after a police stop-and-search operation escalated when a suspect vehicle fled the scene.

The Guyana Police Force had issued wanted bulletins for three men in connection with the bust: Singh, Antonio Alonzo Lawrie and Gregory Anthony Persaud.

Singh pleaded not guilty. Bail was denied and the matter was adjourned to 10 July.
