A female pork-knocker is now hospitalized after allegedly being shot with an arrow by her son-in-law last Friday.
Police in Regional Division 1 have launched an investigation into the incident.
According to a police report, the victim, Edith Gouveia of Five Star Landing, North West District, Region One, was allegedly attacked by Romel Thomas, also known as “Soldier.”
Reports indicate that around 21:00 hrs on Friday, Thomas, who was in a drunken state, went to Gouveia’s camp at Five Star Landing. She reportedly attempted to chase him away, which angered him.
The suspect then armed himself with a bow and arrow and returned to Gouveia’s camp, where he shot her in the left side of her back.
Police said the alleged perpetrator then escaped via the river in a canoe.
Gouveia was rushed to Baramita Cottage Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for an ultrasound and to have the arrow removed.
She is currently in stable condition.
Investigations are ongoing.
