As the holy month of Ramadan begins, members of the Muslim community gathered on the lawns of the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) on Woolford Avenue this afternoon for the second annual National Ramadan Village.

Held under the theme “Enlightenment and Fostering Unity Through Islam”, the event saw participation from families and individuals of all backgrounds. President Dr Irfaan Ali, who conceptualised the initiative, delivered the feature address, emphasising the importance of unity in a diverse society like Guyana.

“We, as a people and as a nation, as different as we are, are placed here for a specific purpose,” President Ali stated.

He suggested that Guyana’s unique diversity serves as an example to the world of what harmony, peace, and coexistence should look like.

“Maybe, just maybe, this is the test that God Almighty has presented us with—to show the rest of the world His teachings from the Holy Quran,” he added.

The President further encouraged attendees to use this Ramadan as a time to reflect on their individual and collective responsibilities towards each other and humanity as a whole.

The National Ramadan Village, already anticipated to be larger than last year, features expanded booths offering Islamic books, clothing, food, and other items.

The event will run every weekend for the next four weeks, providing a space for worship, learning, and community engagement.
