Police investigators are searching for the driver of a white Fielder wagon involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a nine-month-old baby girl.
According to a police report issued today, the incident, which resulted in the death of Eli Surujnarine, occurred at around 18:30 hrs last Sunday on the Line Path Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
The nine-month-old, along with her 19-year-old mother, Kavita Bedsan, was a pillion rider on her father’s electric bike when they were struck from behind by the Fielder wagon.
The father, 17-year-old Tushan Surujnarine, and his family fell onto the roadway, sustaining injuries.
Members of the public rendered assistance after finding the family in an unconscious state. They were taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where they were examined and treated by a doctor before being referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
There, they received further medical attention before being referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Unfortunately, the baby died on the way to GPHC at around 09:45 hrs on Monday.
Police have since located the Fielder wagon, but the driver remains at large.
