Tulsie Ramprashad, of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested on October 28, 2023, at the Citizens Bank automated teller machine (ATM) outlet located at OMG on Sheriff Street and Campbell Avenue, Georgetown. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of four blank cards with magnetic strips.
On November 1, 2023, Ramprashad was charged with Possession of Illegal Devices, contrary to Section 8(2)(a) of the Cyber Crime Act 16/2008. He appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.
He was later granted bail on January 1, 2024, in the sum of $300,000, and his case was transferred to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 6 for trial.
Earlier today, Magistrate Orinthia Schmidt, who presides at Court 6, found Ramprashad guilty of the offence. He was sentenced in absentia to two years’ imprisonment and fined $800,000.
