An early morning fire has caused significant damage to the auditorium and other areas on the ground floor of the longstanding tertiary institution, Critchlow Labour College.

Board Secretary Lincoln Lewis told Ignite News this morning that the origin of the fire was not immediately known, but firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.

Lewis, who was on the scene, expressed his “devastation” at witnessing the damage to the 58-year-old institution, where he has played a key role in its operation.

Critchlow Labour College, a training facility, has provided a second chance for many school dropouts and others seeking preparation to enter higher education institutions such as the University of Guyana.

The college offers studies in business management and entrepreneurship, labour economics, industrial operations such as occupational health and safety, agriculture, childcare, and other fields.
